Human Trafficking Awareness Month
January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month.
Committing to fight against the devaluing of human life is important within the field of caring for orphaned and vulnerable youth.
To acknowledge this awareness month, we want to point you to a few important resources and organizations dedicated to study, prevent, and help in recovery around human trafficking.
1: Myths About Human Trafficking, by Polaris
2: Child Sex Trafficking and the Child Welfare System, by SPARC & First Focus
3: Human Trafficking and Child Welfare: A Guide for Child Welfare Agencies, Children's Bureau 2017
4: Recognizing Human Trafficking, by Polaris
These three resources explain so much about why children involved in child welfare are vulnerable to trafficking and they all link to several more articles for anyone looking!
It's easy to feel overwhelmed by information and the hurt that is seen so clearly in the area of human trafficking. There are a lot of battles to fight. But our time is in His hands, we are not alone, and the war has already been won. If you feel led to intervene in the field of human trafficking or orphan care, start by praying for a "first step". You're always welcome to reach out to us and we'll be happy to pray with you about that next step - whether it's with our organization or somewhere else!
"Learn to do good,
Seek justice,
Rebuke the oppressor,
Defend the Fatherless,
Plead for the widow."
Isaiah 1:17
