Christmas is an incredible reminder of the way God works and of His heart for us. The birth of Jesus is so beautiful in that it fulfilled promises and exceeded expectations. We wanted to take today to look at the Scripture that speaks of His coming, but also at verses that surround it that show us the significance of the baby laying in a manger. We just want to highlight 3 things that we learn surrounding the life of Jesus:
1. God doesn't do things "small"
Indeed He says, ‘It is too small a thing that You should be My Servant To raise up the tribes of Jacob, And to restore the preserved ones of Israel; I will also give You as a light to the Gentiles, That You should be My salvation to the ends of the earth.’ Isaiah 49:6
2. He fulfills His promises
And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins. So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: “Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which is translated, “God with us.” Matthew 1:21-23
3. He allows us to choose adoption into His kingdom.
For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God,
and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. Romans 8:13-17
He chose to reveal these things in a crazy way - the birth of Jesus. It's an amazing story of life and redemption, one that continues with us thousands of years later because it's the story. We've been given a merciful invitation to be a part of it. This Christmas season we want to encourage you to reflect on the life of the Savior and the amazing picture that was brought into focus by His birth, death and resurrection.
